This is one of the parents of most (all ?) cultivated strawberries. (The other parent being Fragaria virginiana.)

Information at the Botanic garden:
"It thrives in meadows, moist sand dunes and crevices in rocks and cliff faces.
It grows wild all along the Western coast of the Americas from Chile to Peru, from California to British Columbia and also in Hawaii."
