My garden

I am pretty sure it is a Geastrum but cannot identify the species. May be complicated by the fact that it has been disturbed by myself inadvertently when cultivating around it - before I noticed it.

The mycelium mass is below (was heavily shaded by) a Ceanothus. There is a lot of decaying Ceanothus leaf in the soil as well as pine needles. This was revealed on cutting back the Ceanothus.

Update: it is now clearer that this is G. triplex or closely related - the saucer subtending the spore sac has now appeared as the spore sac has risen - my fiddling around at the time this picture was taken failed to identify it.
