Alex Bennett says "The old English name for this herb is Grummel. I found this in Sheridan's Dictionary of 1745."
Dave White comments: "I just wondered if you realise what an unusual specimen you have photographed? One of the Common Gromwell flowers appears to have 6 petals and 6 anthers. [Also these are unusually large flowers, the examples] growing in Queensdown Warren have flowers no more than 4mm across."
(I hadn't spotted the unusual flower at all !) |
